On June 25, 2026, the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors posted a memo on Act 757. The insurance change took effect August 1, 2026. It is a license-insurance rule. It is not a new way to price a cleanup.
What changes
The memo quotes La. R.S. 37:2156.1.E. Residential construction and its subclassifications, mold remediation, and home improvement applicants must submit certificates showing workers compensation coverage and liability insurance in a minimum of $500,000, or liability protection from an authorized liability trust fund in that amount.
Proof has to show the licensee name, the insurer, the broker, the policy number, the start and end dates, no exclusions for the licensed scopes of work, and the board listed as a certificate holder. Coverage must last at least six months. Failure to meet the new standards, the memo says, will result in suspension of licensure.
The board's August 1, 2024 Blue Book had set mold-contractor general liability at a minimum of $50,000. That is the figure this act replaces for the licenses it names.
Who it affects
This is for people who hire a Louisiana mold-remediation contractor on a job that needs that license. The board's mold remediation page and the Blue Book both put the license threshold at more than $7,500. A small bathroom wipe that stays under that number is a different conversation.
It does not change what a homeowners policy pays for mold. Does homeowners insurance cover mold? is still the indoor-claim page.
What you still owe or still need to do
A mold license still does not replace a building permit. The 24 to 48 hour drying window on the EPA page does not change. What to do when you find mold in the house is the same order.
What to do now
If you are hiring in Louisiana for a job of more than $7,500, ask for the mold-remediation license number and a current certificate that shows the $500,000 cover. How to choose a mold inspection or cleanup company is the rest of that checklist.
Pages we updated
The Lake Charles city page now notes the August 1, 2026 insurance figure next to the $7,500 license threshold.
